Run for Palestine 2018

A SUMMER’S DAY IN PAL-VEMBER

Melbourne turned on its finest for this year’s Run for Palestine.  The glorious sunshine was obviously motivation enough for 500 people to come out and take part —running, walking and/or watching — in what has become a much anticipated event in the Pal-vember calendar.

People of all ages breathed in the early summer air and spirits were high – then they were off running while the walkers took a more leisurely pace. It was just as well the run was in the morning because the temperature soared to 30C later in the day. The lush trees in the gardens provided the luxury of cover, so no one really noticed the heat  rising.

For anyone thinking that this Run is just for serious runners, think again. Run for Palestine is very much a family affair with mothers pushing strollers and fathers carrying children on their shoulders while older children ran as fast as their legs could carry them.

Children played with pets and let the face painters do their magic while the ice-cream van provided welcome icy treats. For those hungry for more, burgers and pancakes were the order of the day.

As always, the Run’s main focus is the money raised for Palestine.  This year, Melbourne’s Run raised some $30,000 for Olive Kids with donations still coming in. Doing this for such a worthy cause makes all the organisation worthwhile. What could be better than running with friends and family, enjoying the camaraderie and knowing that disadvantaged children will benefit?
