Run for Palestine 2012
Sunday’s “Run” hits a high note for Palestine
Some 400 people attended our inaugural Run for Palestine event on Sunday 18 November 2012 around the “Tan” in Melbourne.
Not expecting such an enthusiastic response, we ran out of T-shirts, bibs and had just enough sausages for everyone at the sausage sizzle afterwards. We certainly will know to provide more for next year’s run.
Despite an early downpour on waking up, the sun came out and shone brilliantly for the run with a light breeze to make it a perfect day. Medals were given out to the winners of the run, as well as certificates to all those who participated. The time clocked by each participant is available below:

A special thank you to Phil Monsour for coming all the way from Brisbane to personally perform his moving songs from his new CD “The Ghosts of Deir Yassin”. Those who didn’t have the chance to hear him on the day, can watch his video at the following link-

The money raised – a total of $9,000 – is going to go to Gaza. We are currently investigating the most needy project through the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and/or Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA and will inform you all through this website once a decision is made.
People can still donate money through our website by clicking on the following link.
We hope that everyone who participated enjoyed the day and that those who ran and walked will keep training for next year’s event. Perhaps there might even be people inspired by the good feelings of camaraderie, balmy weather and gorgeous surroundings to try the run or walk themselves next year. We would love to see this event grow bigger and better and we are depending on you to help us make it happen. Please spread the word to family and friends. It is a small, but nevertheless, significant way we can all help to raise awareness of Palestinian human rights and hopefully see them also run free one day very soon.
